Crafted-by-Hand in Connecticut: An Artisan Fair

Crafted-by-Hand in Connecticut, an artisan fair, includes Old Saybrook glass artist Mundy Hepburn and Lisbon mosaic and jewelry artist Jennifer Johnson. Other artisans include Old Lyme jewelry designer Mikaela Pearson, who creates one-of-a-kind pieces with striking materials such as Jet, Baltic Amber, undyed Corals, and carved stone or bone beads; Norwich photographer Sean Flynn, whose lush landscapes, floral portraits, dramatic architectural shots, and quirky vintage signs are his trademarks; and potter Pat Rist who, out of her Branford studio, uses her ancestor’s antique lace and crochet pieces to add texture to her teapots, bowls and serving plates. Rist also creates whimsical garden sculptures and animal caricatures.

For the past decade, he has worked exclusively with his own furnace design and other homemade equipment to create his unique style of luminous glass sculpture. Mundy Hepburn lives and works from his studio in Old Saybrook, CT. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States.

    Jennifer Johnson

Artist statement: After many years of exploring different art mediums, I have narrowed my true loves to fused glass, mosaics and concrete garden art. I can no longer deny my need to create and have begun an adventure to share my art with the world...or at least anyone willing to look. Mother Nature is my muse, and I play with new techniques and designs as often as I can. Check out where I have been and watch me as I evolve.

  • Mikaela Pearson

    Mikaela Pearson

Mikaela's pieces are all handmade, crafted from .92 Sterling Silver and/or .99 Fine Silver. Each design is inspired by its components: Mikaela actively seeks out antique or unusually striking materials to work with, such as genuine Jet, Baltic Amber, undyed Corals, and carved stone or bone beads.

  • Sean Flynn

    Flynn's Horses

Sean's passion for photography began at the Rochester Institute of Technology while working on his BFA in Graphic Design. Since college he has been employed as a graphic designer, currently for the University of Connecticut.

"For me, photography and design are one. The same elements used in design can be applied to photography (shape, texture, scale, value, and perspective). My favorite images are ones of abstraction when an object is viewed as a part instead of the whole."

Photographs can be viewed at www.smflynn.com.

  • Pat Rist

    Pat Rist

Pat uses antique lace and crochet to add texture to her pieces and in the process creates a permanent record of some of her ancestor's handiwork.

She also creates whimsical garden sculptures and animal caricatures.
